A Bulletin of Good News: Hefei Debo Won the Second Prize of National-level Science and Technology Progress Award, Showcasing Its Cutting-edge Technologies to Boost China's Green and Low-carbon Transition During the 15th Five-Year Plan Period

As China's National Science and Technology Awards Ceremony was grandly held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on July 8,  a project of Key Technologies and Equipment for Directional Thermal Conversion of Biomass, led by Southeast University with Hefei Debo as a major participating player for joint research, was honored with the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Awards.

Rising up to challenges of traditional biomass conversion including low product yield, heavy pollution and poor industrialization feasibility, a brand-new technical route for directional thermal conversion has been innovatively proposed for this project. As the core player for industrialized implementation, Hefei Debo collaborated with academician teams to achieve major breakthroughs in core challenges such as gas purification and tar removal. Debo independently developed complete sets of gasification equipment including dual circulating fluidized beds, pure oxygen fluidized beds and mobile pyrolysis units, enabling clean operation free of tar, wastewater and odor, and fundamentally resolving the bottleneck in collection, storage and transportation of agricultural and forestry residues. On this basis, a demonstration project producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from straw has been completed, and high-value biochar has been successfully applied in new energy storage materials, effectively breaking foreign technological monopolies.

This national-level honor represents authoritative recognition of Debo Energy’s nearly two decades of dedicated research and development in biomass resource utilization, and fully affirms the value of biomass energy in supporting the "Dual Carbon" strategy (carbon peaking and carbon neutrality).

So far, a series of policies including the 15th Five-Year Plan for Circular Economy Development, energy conservation and carbon reduction campaigns for key industries, and zero-emission industrial park construction have been fully rolled out. Efficient utilization of agricultural and forestry residues and industrial substitution of fossil fuels have become core tasks for green development. Relying on self-developed complete biomass gasification equipment, Debo can provide low-cost energy coupling and substitution solutions for high-energy-consuming industries such as steel, chemical engineering and cement. We also build a polygeneration circular system integrating electricity, heat, cold, biochar and organic fertilizer, and continuously advances industrialization of biomass gasification pathways to produce sustainable aviation fuel and bio-LNG. We are committed to delivering a full closed-loop resource utilization foundation for zero-emission parks, and practices the mission of green development through industrial technology deployment.

Upholding the corporate mission "Towards Net Zero through Generations of Dedication to Biomass Energy", Hefei Debo persists in large-scale industrialization of industry-university-research achievements, and has built a full-life-cycle service system covering field waste collection and storage, intelligent equipment manufacturing and operation & maintenance services, unlocking the full industrial chain for high-value utilization of agricultural and forestry residues. Debo has delivered more than 200 benchmark projects worldwide and put over 300 sets of equipment into operation. Each year, it consumes millions of tons of agricultural and forestry residues, delivers benefits of carbon emission reduction at 100-million-ton level, and drives coordinated development of rural revitalization and green industry.

This award marks a new starting point and a greater responsibility. Facing the overall drive for comprehensive green transition of economic and social development, Hefei Debo will continue to focus on high-value utilization of biomass gasification, iterate core technologies and complete equipment, and deeply serve the main battlefield of industrial carbon reduction and construction of zero-emission parks.
